Calgary Roofing Solutions seeks to maintain a solid respect for our world and its future. We strive to operate all aspects of our business in a way that protects the environment. We make every effort to use only roofing products that are recyclable or contain recycled material. Recycled tires are now used in many of the rubber roofing systems we use.
Keeping Shingles Out of Our Landfills
We are committed to recycling roofing materials, wherever possible, diverting them from landfills. Recycling shingles is not only more eco-friendly – it saves time and money. Recycling depots are usually closer and have shorter waiting lists than the local landfill.
In Canada and the US, over 10 million tons of asphalt roofing materials are discarded each year. According to Owens Corning – every recycled roof keeps the equivalent of one year’s worth of household waste out of the landfill.
Recycled Asphalt Roofing
Much of the asphalt shingles recycled today are used to make paving mix for our roads and highways. There is also evidence that adding Recycled Asphalt Shingles (RAS) to paving mix can make the road stronger structurally. The mix of stone particles and fibers in both organic and fiberglass shingles produces a paving material with enhanced performance. With the low-cost of RAS, this new technology may prove to be a tremendous cost saving to municipal, provincial and federal highway departments and paving contractors. We are always working to educate, train and motivate our employees to conduct their work in a matter that is environmentally responsible.
