CEDAR SHAKES AND SHINGLES
Manufactured from spruce, treated pine or cedar, wood shakes and shingles have been a popular choice for many years and is commonly seen in many Calgary neighborhoods.
Wood shakes are made by hand-splitting the wood which gives a more rustic look. A wood shingle is machine-cut with a tapered, trim and finished look.
The life expectancy of properly installed wood shingles is approximately the same as a high-quality asphalt shingle - around 30 years. However, they cost significantly more.
